FirstSearch screens
Each screen in FirstSearch is divided into three areas. A popup window gives you access to online help while you are viewing FirstSearch screens. Click on any linked name below for more information on a specific area of the FirstSearch screens.

Navigation menu
The Navigation menu provides links to FirstSearch screens and global commands. For users of newer browsers, move your cursor over any link to see a description of the link's functionality.
Links to FirstSearch screens are listed in task order: 首页, 数据库, 检索, and 结果. Some links will not display until you have completed a given task in the search process. For example, links to the Results screens will not display until you have completed a search and have search results.
Links to global commands, such as 退出, are provided at the top of the of the menu and repeated at the bottom of the screen.
Control panel
The control panel contains tools and information for the current screen. Context-sensitive help for each screen is available by clicking the 帮助 
button.
FirstSearch tools, such as online help, are represented by icons with short labels. Move your cursor over any icon to see a description of its functionality. Tools are available based on the current system status. For example, the 排序 
icon will display only after a search and only if your search results contain between 2 and 500 records.
Brief status information (database name, search string, result count) is shown on the right side of the control panel.
FirstSearch tools and the status information are repeated at the bottom of any screen that includes multiple pages.
Main dialog
The main dialog is the task area for completing a search and using the results of that search. When you click a screen link in the navigation menu or control panel, the associated screen will display in the main dialog.
Language and legal
Language selection links allow you to change the user interface language and are followed by some general commands. The OCLC logo and copyright and terms and conditions appear at the bottom of each page, and for databases augmented by library holdings information, the OCLC WorldCat logo appears.
Online help
Context-sensitive help is displayed in a popup window that you can move, resize, or close. The popup window allows you to read help while you are viewing FirstSearch screens. For example, you can read through the procedures for performing a search while viewing the search screen. Help will display in the same popup window regardless of the number of times or places you click the help button. Your screen will not be filled with multiple popup windows. Use the links or shortcut key commands at the top or bottom of the help screen to navigate and control the popup window.
